    CID - RIGHT TO INFORMATION ACT – 2005

The main function of the CID is to investigate the offences and enquiries of complicated and serious nature entrusted by the 1) State Govt. 2) D. G. P. Mumbai and 3) by the Honorable Court . The functions of the State CID (Crime) are as follows -
     
   
  1. Keeping watch on and dealing with specialised crime throughout the State.
  2. Investigation of specialised crime of an important nature.
  3. Institution of confidential enquiries into matter of general interest under the direction of Director General of Police or State Government.
  4. Co- ordination with the Criminal Investigation Departments(Crime) of other States.
  5. Collection of Statistics relating to Crime and Criminals and submission thereof  to the Director General, State Government and other authorities as and when required.
  6. Giving expert advice & guidance in matters of Crime Management to Commissioners of Police and District Superintendents of Police in-charge of Units
  7. Analysing crime pattern in the States for the benefit of field officers and to advice Director General of Police and State Government. with regard to crime management.
  8. Dealing with the habitual offenders in accordance with the instructions issued by Director General of Police or State Government from time to time.
  9. Dealing with crime as a whole in the state with special reference to crimes in the border districts, organised crime, economic offences and all other professional crimes
  10. Publication of Periodical Crime Reviews for department use.
  11. Maintaining of State Modus Operandi Bureau in accordance with the instructions issued from time to time.
  12. Maintaining Finger Print Bureau & Foot Print Branch in accordance with the instructions issued from time to time .
  13. Maintaining Hard Writing & Photographic Bureau .
  14. Maintaining Statistical Branch.
  15. Maintaining Law & Research Unit.
  16. Maintaining Dog Unit & Training Centre for Police Dogs.
  17. Computerisation of Crime & Criminal Information.
  18. Training District Police Personnel in the working of Modus Operandi Bureau, the Finger Print Bureau and the Computer Centre
  19. Keeping liaison with the Forensic Science Laboratories in the State and elsewhere and such other Organizations and Departments of the State and Central Governments reference to which may be required to be made for the purpose of investigation.
  20. Collection of Criminal Intelligence from all possible avenues.
  21. Dealing with applications received from members of the public and taking such actions thereon as may be considered necessary.
